Post Workout Golden Mylk Smoothie

Fuelling your body is key to have killer workouts - both before & after.

One of my fav go-to Post Workout Smoothies is my Golden Milk Smoothie. It's packed with superfoods specifically to nourish my growing & recovering muscles. 

99% of my smoothies are super green but this one is a vibrant yellow / orange. That colour pigment comes from Turmeric. Why would I put a savoury spice in my smoothie? Well, let me tell you about my friend Turmeric - it is a super food root that has been used for centuries for cooking & it's medicinal benefits. The active compound in Turmeric is called Curcumin. Curcumin has strong anti-inflammatory properties & a high anti-oxidant potency.  

That's great and all, but what does that have to do with my workouts? When you are working out your body is under stress - muscles are tearing, your heart rate is high, nutrients are being sucked out of their stores & the list goes on. Anti-oxidants protect your body from oxidative stresses. Anti-inflammatories aid your inflamed muscles to recovery quicker. Going to the gym & being sore for 3+ days can be discouraging and uncomfortable - no thank you!

I also added Ashwagandha & Maca to balance my hormones (including that sneaky stress hormone Cortisol). Because I typically workout in the mornings, I always add Maca & Ashwagandha to aid my mental health. Ashwagandha aids in stress & anxiety, allowing me to be clear minded, relaxed & focussed for the day. 

L-Glutamine is a wonderful amino acid that helps muscle recovery & improves gut health by healing the mucosa lining (inner lining) of your digestive system. 

MCT Oil - healthy fats - duh!

Greens Powder - I challenge myself daily to have at least one serving of vegetables with EVERY meal. Throw them in a delicious smoothie & you can't even taste it - #winning.

Butternut Squash in a smoothie?! Yaaaaas - especially after a workout I need to replenish my Glucose stores with Carbohydrates. 

*Post Workout Nutrition Tip - your post workout snack/meal should be consumed within 20-30minutes after working out. Your meal should be about 3:1 ratio of Carbohydrates to Protein.

Post Workout Golden Mylk Smoothie 

  • 1/2 cup Organic Frozen Butternut Squash
  • 1/2 cup Organic Frozen Mango
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Yogurt - my fav brand at the moment is Silk
  • 1 cup Organic Coconut Milk - varies depending on desired consistency
  • 1/2 scoop L-Glutamine Powder
  • 1 tsp Botanica's Turmeric Golden Mylk
  • 1 scoop Protein Powder - I used Purica's Power Vegan Protein Powder + Chaga
  • 1 tsp Maca
  • 1/2 tsp Ashwagandha 
  • 1/2 tbsp MCT Oil
  • 1 scoop Greens Powder - I rotate between Botanica's Organic Greens Plain & Genuine Health's Organic Fermented Gut Superfoods Plain

Throw everything into your blender & Enjoy!
